Online interactive content - virtual studio tour, video recipies, and a behind-the-scenes slideshow

The PBS television series

In Jacques Pépin: Fast Food My Way, the man who taught millions of Americans how to cook shares the techniques he honed in the most famous kitchens of the world to show you how to create simple, special meals in minutes. These online modules were built as part of the companion website which was hosted by KQED and PBS.org.

Jacques' Kitchen - an interactive experience

I was brought in by the web development team at KQED here in San Francisco, to develop an interactive experience, so that users could explore the set where the television show was filmed. This piece uses Flash technology, extensive Actionscript programming and includes embedded video clips of various recipes that are demonstrated in the show. Clicking on the oven launches the video where Jacques teaches us how to make a Lavash Pizza. Clicking on the hanging copper pots launches a video demonstration of how to make Peasant Soup. The scene pans to the left or right, and is designed to engage the user in an exploratory experience.

Video Recipes

We developed a full archive of videos that demonstrate how to prepare all of the recipes that were presented in the show, and hosted this archive on the website so that viewers could review the steps for the particular recipe that they were interested in, and replay the video, or pause it. This makes it very easy to follow along, especially if you have a laptop in the kitchen.

Behind the Scenes - An interactive slideshow

Susie Heller was the producer of the show. This piece chronicles her thoughts on the making of the series. I developed this slideshow as a generic tool that the KQED interactive department could easily use for other projects and other shows.
